My current work with Music Place North West is in hospice care. Music therapy can be of great comfort to people at the end of life, offering an opportunity to express emotions and feelings, to relax at a stressful time, to experience a supportive presence and sense of companionship and to take part in a meaningful and enjoyable activity.
I studied music at Cambridge University (Gonville and Caius College) and prior to qualifying as a music therapist in 2019 (from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama), I worked as a music teacher and performer for over a decade. I play a number of instruments including flute, violin, piano, guitar and crwth (Welsh bowed lyre). My work is person-centred and I have a particular interest in the Social Model of Disability and Neurodiversity, as applied to clinical work in music therapy.
